Acceptable Use Policy - Summary

By using the service, you are agreeing to the Terms & Conditions as well as the Full Acceptable Use Policy. The following is a plain language summary. Where any contradiction between the full policy and this summary is found, the full policy version shall prevail.

It is your responsibility to configure your own equipment so that its is not misused by others. We will do our best to inform you of any inappropriate activity and ask that you remedy the situation.

Examples of this are:

  • Leaving a virus infected spam-sending computer on-line
  • Plugging in a router backwards such that it advertises DHCP to the network
  • Doing anything, that might disrupt other users enjoyment of the service.

In some cases, your access will need to be suspended for the benefit of others. In more serious cases accounts can be permanently terminated. Refunds are not normally given to users whose accounts are suspended and/or terminated. It does not matter how the misuse occurs, either by purposeful misconduct or configuration errors or any other situation. You are always ultimately responsible for what occurs on your account. It includes intentional and unintentional acts or omissions regardless of purpose.

Some indicators of inappropriate use are but are not limited to the following:

  • Use of another person’s account or credit card without authority
  • Improper challenging of credit card payments to us
  • Providing false or misleading information to Superloop WiFi when creating an account
  • Sharing your account access or details with another user. If you run a wireless router, you must be sure it is configured securely.
  • Illegal, malicious or offensive conduct, including in the creation of user accounts or in any correspondence with Superloop WiFi in a public or private forum
  • Abuse of our support staff or representatives in any manner whatsoever
  • Transmission or display of threatening, obscene, offensive or abusive materials or any form of harassment
  • Anything which conflicts with any published policy of any appropriate University to which your residence is attached
  • Anything that contravenes any law or statute of any relevant regulator or authority.
  • Improper probing or phishing
  • Spam, mail bombing, flooding
  • Use for commercial purpose (including resale of the service on a cost recovery basis)
  • Participating in Denial of Service attacks (whether intentional or not)
  • Conduct which overloads or may overload the System or otherwise cause or contribute to reduction in performance
  • Failure to maintain virus and other protection systems
  • Transmission of illegal, fraudulent, copyright of defamatory material
  • Establishing a private network other than for personal use
  • Reselling Superloop WiFi services
  • Conduct which attracts network abuse by third parties
  • Running DHCP servers, PPPoE concentrators, advertising routes or bridge networks or network connections.

This service is designed to be used for Internet Access. You should not expect to be able to run a server of any kind.

We are not liable to you for any cost, expense, loss or damage of any kind you may suffer or incur in any way arising from your use of the service or the operation of the service itself or advice you have received from any support staff.

If we are liable to you for any reason then our liability is limited to reinstatement of your account.
We can update this and any other policy at our discretion.
